Power of Blue

A series of algorithmic paintings at Rizzuto Gallery, Palermo.

Year: 2022

The series consists of four 100x100cm panels, showcasing iterations 2, 4, 6, and 8 of the same subdivision cycle. A recursive algorithm partitions a square area into two unequal parts repeatedly: the first is colored blue, and the second white. While a computer can execute this process in milliseconds, generating thousands of combinations, I chose to engage directly in the work’s creation by manually cutting, coloring, and assembling each piece.

This hands-on approach is more than a performative act; it deepens my understanding of how computers operate through repetition. Physical creation introduces imperfections absent in digital renderings, making each panel a unique piece that diverges from its algorithmic origins.
