Power of Blue

Result

A recursive algorithm is employed to partition a square area into two unequal parts repeatedly. When the division occurs, the initial part is colored blue, while the second part is colored white.

It only takes a few milliseconds for a computer to perform this operation, generating thousands of combinations in a very short time. Instead of delegating all the work to a machine, I wanted to support it in the physical creation of the work, manually carrying out repetitive cutting, coloring and assembly operations.

In addition to being a performative act, I like the repetition of mechanical actions because it allows me to better understand how a computer works. Furthermore, the physical creation of a work will always be different from its digital matrix, since its imperfections make it a unique copy.

The series consists of four 100x100cm panels depicting iterations number 2, 4, 6 and 8 of the same subdivision cycle.
